Clinical Research Programs

Basically a branch of the healthcare science stream, clinical research programs aim at determination of the effectiveness as well as safety of various treatments and related products.

When it comes to determination of the quality and effectiveness of any device, product, medication or programs in medical science; clinical research programs are the most effective method for it. Clinical research is used for various purposes that include diagnosis, treatment or even prevention of diseases and methods devised towards the said objective.

Basic difference between clinical practice and research is that while the former uses treatments that are already proven and time tested, the later is the process of collection of evidences that will establish a treating method. Research is associated with the entire genealogy of any medicine; product, process or program from its inception till its logical end and till it is marketed. Target subject is scrutinized through appropriate pre-clinical studies and it is often used on animals as the specimen.

In countries like USA, unapproved products or methods undergo extensive research process till they are duly approved by the FDA. All the associated risk factors are clearly diagnosed and their acceptability is assessed through critical analysis. The report prepared is submitted to the FDA for review before the product or services are marketed and it is only when they are cleared by the FDA that they make their formal appearance in the market.

Platforms for clinical research programs are usually offered by academic as well as the medical centers or their affiliated research institutions. They also help provide greater pool of participation in the process of research.
